Most residents (80% in 2004) feel safe or very safe walking alone in their neighborhoods during the day. However, fears rise after dark. Less than half of San Franciscans (47%) say they feel safe walking alone at night in their neighborhoods, and over a quarter (28%) feel unsafe or very unsafe at night in their neighborhoods.
